Letter from Council Key 3

Dear Friends in Scouting,

We are pleased to share with you the Hoosier Trails Council Strategic Plan and our vision to be South-Central Indiana's foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training. This plan highlights the strategies that Scouting professionals and volunteers within our council will pursue in the coming years to facilitate our mission of preparing young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

We want you to know that our Strategic Plan integrates the strategic pillars identified in the National Council Strategic Plan to ensure that our programs are relevant to youth in the 21st century.  We invite you to join us in working to achieve the objectives laid out in our plan.

Based on an administrative review of our council, and feedback from hundreds of Scouts and volunteers at the unit, district, and council levels, we have identified four "Pathways" that we believe are central to achieving our vision and mission:

  • Leadership Excellence & Culture of Service
  • Program Enhancements
  • Participation Expansion and Program Promotion
  • Financial Sustainability

We are grateful to the Strategic Planning Committee and the more than 500 Scouts, volunteers, and Scouting professionals who completed questionnaires and provided feedback to shape this plan.   Our ambition is to make this a living document that is continually reviewed and specific goals will be added annually to keep our direction focused and meaningful.

The youth of today face more challenges and have more activities to occupy their time than ever before. With your continued leadership and support, we are committed to working harder than ever to ensure that Scouting is relevant for our youth in South-Central Indiana, and that the values of the Scout Law and Oath are instilled in our nation's future leaders.
