BSA Expands Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts Programs to Welcome Girls

The BSA's board of directors has unanimously approved welcoming girls into our Cub Scouts program and delivering a Scouting program for older girls that will enable them to advance and earn the highest rank of Eagle Scout.

The historic decision comes after years of receiving requests from families and girls. The BSA evaluated the results of numerous research efforts, gaining input from current members and leaders — as well as parents and girls who have never been involved in Scouting — to understand how to offer families an important additional choice in meeting the character development needs of all their children.

The GREAT Popcorn Sale Kickoffs

In May units received resources to help plan their Ideal Year of Scouting (linked above) that should be full of adventures that have a cost associated with them; how will these experiences get paid for?  Popcorn sale success will launch our programs to the stars!  This fall is sure to bring even better product and prizes to help your unit raise the money to have the best Scouting year yet!  We will have new tools, new incentives and an awesome unit commission!

Retention Convention Resources

This year's Ren Con is in the books and it was awesome to see so many unit leaders heavy engaged in the beginning plans of their Ideal Year of Scouting.  We know that because of the resulting awesome adventures, Scouts will stay involved.  A DVD of resources was provided to every Scout unit and Commissioner, which contained tremendous resources, including your own copy of Youth Protection Training.  Some of the resources are linked here:

These are just some of the tools on the resource DVD, to make arrangements to get yours, contact Kevin Trojan, Council Program Director.   Units will need their Scoutbook access code, which is labeled upon your personalized disk.  Plan your work, work your plan!

2017 Platinum Journey to Excellence

The Hoosier Trails Council, Boy Scouts of America is striving to provide quality, meaningful programs to the young people in our area, to aid them in achieving their full potential in life. It is understood that the true benefit of the Scouting movement comes directly from our Scouting units and if we are to improve the standard of our programs, units will make the difference.

In 2017, we will honor those units that go above and beyond the call of duty for the young people they serve. These special units will be designated as Platinum Level Journey to Excellence Units and will lead the way for the rest of the Council. This special recognition will not come easy, but will bring worthy praise and tools to continue to build and strengthen the unit.  View the 2016 achieving units and set your sites on the 2017 objectives.
