The Hoosier Trails Council, Boy Scouts of America is one of several councils serving a specific geographic region within Indiana.

MISSION STATEMENT - It is the mission of the Boy Scouts of America to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

SCOUT OATH - On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.

SCOUT LAW - A Scout is: Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent.

Currently, the Hoosier Trails Council Service Center is located in Bloomington and serves 18 counties throughout south-central Indiana. The council is divided into four districts, each under the direction of local volunteers and a professional staff member.

  • Hoosier Hills District: Dearborn, Jefferson, Ohio, Ripley, Switzerland - 3,200 youth
  • Lenni Lenape District: Bartholomew, Decatur, Jackson, Jennings - 2,800 youth
  • Wapehani District: Brown, Monroe, Morgan, Owen - 3,200 youth
  • White River Trails: Daviess, Greene, Lawrence, Martin, Orange - 2,000 youth

The Boy Scouts of America was incorporated on February 8, 1910 - therefore we are celebrating our centennial year by having multiple events to recognize the impact that the BSA has had on American society. We are prepared to step boldly into our next century of service to the families of our community.

Community-based organizations receive national charters to implement the Scouting program as a part of their youth programming. These groups, which have goals compatible with those of the BSA, include school groups, churches, civic clubs, fraternal and business organizations, among others. Our programs are grade specific and age appropriate:

  • Tiger Cubs: First Grade
  • Cub Scouts: Second - Third Grade
  • Webelos: Fourth - Fifth Grade
  • Boy Scouts: Ages 11-18
  • Venturing: Co-Ed Programming Ages 14-20

Volunteer adult leaders serve at all levels of Scouting. Each volunteer provides guidance, direction and supervision of activities for a specific group. Each volunteer is provided training to complete their role. These adults are the backbone of our organization's success.
